SOL CAMPBELL believes Alexis Sanchez is evidence Arsene Wenger can still buy world-class players at Arsenal.
The Gunners have once again struggled to maintain their charge of the Premier League title this season.
And fans are growing restless over the persistent disappointment of Arsenal falling short domestically and in the Champions League.
Marquee signings have been hugely limited at the club since the move from Highbury to the Emirates, with Sanchez and Mesut Ozil among the rare expensive acquisitions.
Midfielder Granit Xhaka cost £30million last summer but has failed to impress.
Arsene Wenger’s future remains uncertain beyond this season, although if he stays, top signings will be demanded.
And Arsenal legend Campbell believes Sanchez’s on-field determination can be matched by new arrivals in the summer transfer window – although they will prove costly.
“They might be rarer, but they are out there,” Campbell told The Times on forceful personalities in football.
“Look at [Alexis] Sánchez. Those characters do still exist.
“There will be players who have the tenacity and have the skill but are at the wrong club.
“You’ve just got to find them and you might have to be a bit cleverer or pay a bit more for them.
“Sometimes you might need to go back into your memory and remember the characters who won for you in the past and try to find those kind of guys.
“It’s not about really nasty guys. It’s about guys who are passionate and strong-willed — skilful in their own position but also with the will to win.”
Alexandre Lacazette and Marco Reus have been linked as potential targets for Arsenal.
However, the Borussia Dortmund star is seen more as a replacement for Sanchez if the Chilean quits the Gunners rather than an addition to further strengthen the team.
