Tin Jedvaj’s agent, Zoran Ban, has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in the young defender. The Gunners are in the market for a centre-back having been priced out of a move for Swansea City’s Ashley Williams and have eyed to Croatian starlet as a possible acquisition.
The 17-year-old has also attracted interest from AC Milan and Roma, who had a £5 million bid rejected last week. The Dinamo Zagreb has been touted as the next ‘Paolo Maldini’, which is high praise and Maldini’s former club are monitoring him closely.
“He is 17 years old, but he plays like 25. He has great quality, is strong physically and mentally. He has a secure future.” Said a confident Ban. He added “Until yesterday he was a step away from signing with Roma, then I do not know what happened with the president of Dinamo. It is on the basis of £5 million.”
It is understood that Dinamo Zagreb are unwilling to sell the defender but know if a good offer came in they could not refuse. Arsenal have history with Zagreb having acquired the lethal finisher, Eduardo while Luka Modric of Real Madrid also originated from Zagreb so the club had proof of producing stars.
Jedvaj is interested in a move to one of Europe’s greatest teams confirmed Ban. “The boy is interested in coming to Roma. And they were the first team interested, then came Milan and Arsenal.” Benfica are also believed to be interested in the Croatian wonderkid although that has not been confirmed.
Arsenal believe a bid of around £7 million would be enough to secure his signature and would be prepared to splash the cash based on his current talent and potential development.
The club are yet to delve in to their huge transfer kitty but are understood to be close to signing Gonzalo Higuain and Marouane Fellaini.
