hinese Super League striker Christian Bassogog says he dreams of a return to Europe, and he wants to join his childhood club Arsenal in the Premier League.

Bassogog currently plays for Henan Jianye in China, having moved there from Danish club Aalborg BK in 2017. However, he now hopes to come back to Europe and to Arsenal in particular.

“Yes, it’s still a dream for me to come back to Europe,” Bassogog told Goal.

“I would like to play in the biggest league in the world, in the Premier League. My favourite club since I was very small is Arsenal. I like playing with the ball and this club suits me. When I was a child, Thierry Henry was a model for me. It’s someone who impressed me a lot.”

As mentioned, Bassogog is currently playing in the Chinese Super League, where he has six goals and three assists this season.

Although he mostly plays centre-forward, the 23-year-old’s main strength is his excellent dribbling, and his best performances this year have come from wide positions.

Arsenal could use some reinforcements in wide areas, and with Danny Welbeck out they’re seemingly on the lookout for a backup striker as well.

Bassogog won’t get any more chances to prove himself though, as the Chinese Super League won’t resume until after the January transfer window, and there are no international games in the meantime.

That’s a shame for the striker, as he’s starting to break into the Cameroon national team. Bassogog has two goals in his three international appearances this year, and he played in both of their most recent matches, including coming off the bench against Brazil.

The forward will just have to hope he’s already done enough to catch Arsenal’s eye, or alternatively, patiently wait another year.
