Jack Butland has denied reports that he’s told Stoke he wants to leave this summer, amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. The England international is expected to be part of England’s World Cup squad, but is enduring life at the wrong end of the Premier League table with the Potters this season. Stoke are currently lodged in the relegation zone, with just 11 matches to go, and Butland was reported to have told club chiefs that he was desperate to move on in the summer.
However, the 24-year-old hit out at the news and directly confronted the rumour on social media. Quoting a tweet that claimed he’d asked to leave Stoke, he posted on Twitter: ‘Before this spreads any further, I haven’t told the club I want to leave, I’m focused on doing everything I can to keep the club in this division! ‘Stop believing everything you read!’ Butland is thought to be a £40million target for both Arsenal and Liverpool. The Gunners have been unimpressed by the form of Petr Cech this season, with David Ospina also set to leave the Emirates, while Jurgen Klopp has found himself rotating Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet after a catalogue of errors.
