Arsenal are reportedly ready to battle Manchester United for the signature of Hertha Berlin wonderkid Arne Maier, who has been dubbed the next Toni Kroos, according to the Sun.

The two sides have been scouting the 19-year-old extensively this season after he cemented his place in the Hertha engine room, not missing a single minute of Bundesliga action.

Hertha Berlin value Maier at £30million, but it is likely that Arsenal or Manchester United would have to pay a lot more than that to acquire his services next month, the Metro reports.

Hertha Berlin are currently sixth in the Bundesliga with 23 points from 14 games, just four points behind Bayern Munich. However, Dortmund are running away with the league at the moment, with 36 points.

Scouts from both Arsenal and United watched him in action at the weekend and are expected to cast their eye over him once again when he takes on Stuttgart next time out.

Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is likely behind the interest after his links to Germany have been used successfully to bring in other talent.

The former Borussia Dortmund chief scout has already helped with the transfers of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sokratis.
