British journalist James Benge has provided an update on Arsenal’s expected deal for a new defender as the club remains silent regarding transfer rumours as usual.

Arsenal’s appointment of Unai Emery means there are significant changes expected to be made to the squad before next season kicks off.

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss has pointed out areas in the team where there are weaknesses and he appears to be moving very quickly to find answers in the transfer market.

Therefore, rumours have witnessed Borussia Dortmund star Sokratis Papastathopoulos continue to be linked with a move to the Emirates stadium this summer.

Various reports have suggested that the 29-year-old, who is pocketing £90,000-a-week in Germany, is edging closer and closer to an Arsenal switch and more reliable sources are beginning to validate those claims.

According to James Benge, who works for the Evening Standard, Sokratis is now set to sign a three-year deal with the Gunners.
