It is common knowledge that Wenger tried hard to get a marquee striker signing for Arsenal in the just concluded transfer window but the window ended with Arsenal signing no real Striker. From Jovetic to Higuain, to Suarez and to Rooney, all were linked but none signed for Arsenal for various reasons. Although nothing can be done till January but knowing Wenger and his love for attackers, it will not be surprising if Wenger goes all out for a striker in the January transfer window especially if Arsenal still have a chance to win the league or if our top 4 chances are under threat ( I hope not ).
Below are the 3 strikers I believe we have a chance of signing in the January transfer window.
Wayne Rooney : He has said he want to leave Manchester United as he wants a more central role which he will not get unless RVP gets injured or hits a very poor form. Although Chelsea were interested last window, I do not think they will still want to sign him after signing Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi in the last transfer window. Wenger been a long term admirer of the player will likely go back for in. Plus Rooney may not want them if he thinks his chances of first team football will be reduced with they signing Eto’o in the just concluded window.
The chances of us getting Rooney in January is even higher if you consider the fact that by then, he will have about 1 year left on his contract which may force United to sell unless they manage to convince him to sign a new contract. With RVP not looking like a player who will drop form soon, I do not see Rooney ousting him from the first team from now till January unless RVP gets injured.
Another plus is the fact that the world cup will be just a few months away in January and if he is not playing regularly, pressure will be on him to move to a club where he will have better chances of first team football as the bulk of England hopes for the world cup rests on his shoulders.
Luiz Suarez : He was a surprise target for Arsenal in the last window and although Liverpool have said they will not be selling to Arsenal, I still think if the player wants to move and Arsenal are ready to pay as much as 45-50 million for him, we will get our man. The fact that they will not be playing in Europe and won’t be cup tie may tempt Wenger to try once more to sign the Uruguayan. Suarez will likely force a move away from the club should Liverpool be struggling in January.
However, to stand a chance, we may make them a good offer ( 45-50m ) and as early as possible to enable them have enough time to source for his replacement. I think this one depends largely on what Wenger wants and if the board will allow him spend as much as 50 million on a single player less than 5 months after paying over 42 million for another.
Benzema : Call me crazy but I think we should have a chance of signing Benzema in January if 1. Wenger wants him 2. Real Madrid are able to get Luiz Suarez. If Real Madrid come for Suarez ( which I think they will ) then we have a strong chance of nicking Benzema from Real Madrid. Although I must confess, on a personal note, I do not like Benzema as a player.
Others we have a chance of signing are Ac Milan’s El shaarawy, Burak Yilmaz.
