Arsenal have reportedly bid £10.6m for Danish international Simon Kjaer, a long-term transfer target.
According to Turks Voetbal, Arsenal’s offer falls short of Fenerbahce’s asking price, which is believed to be around £13.25m.
The Danish international was once a highly rated prospect when he was with Palermo and he was, predictably, linked with a move to Arsenal at the time.
Several years later, he’s played for Wolfsburg, Roma and Lille without ever settling anywhere and is now playing in Turkey – where a lot of unwanted European talent ends up.
It’s hard to believe Arsenal have any interest in the 28-year-old given their own options at the back. Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding are believed to be first-choice next season.
Gabriel, Calum Chambers and Per Mertesacker are on the fringes, highlighting how overstocked Arsenal are at the back.
Kjaer would hardly be an improvement on any of them. This is a move that would have happened a long time ago if the Gunners truly rated him. Italian Serie A rivals Inter Milan and AC Milan are also said to be interested and perhaps will pursure the Dane harder than Arsene Wenger will.
