According to report in France, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made enquiries about landing the services of Lyon teenager Houssem Aouar.
The North London club has suffered couple of setback in their bid to strengthen the squad this summer, but the Arsenal manager has a proven track record in attracting wonder kids from France. In this case, he has Liverpool to battle with for the signature of the youngster.
Aouar, 17, is yet to feature at senior level for his club but his efforts for the reserve side have brought him to the attention of suitors across Europe, one of which is Arsenal.
French side Lyon desperately keen on getting the wonder kid signed up to a professional contract when he turns 18 later this month and the French clubs recruitment chief Gerard Bonneau was full of praise for the youngster.
The young central midfielder is unable to sign a professional contract until he turns 18 later this month. The teenager played 5 times in the UEFA youth league for Lyon U-19’s last season, making one assist in total.
“Houssem has a technical ease and good vision that allows him to see quickly, Gerard Bonneau told Foot Mercato, when asked about the teenager.
“He has both feet, can speed up the game, but also can keep the ball at his feet when necessary and has ability in one-on-one situations.
“He can play as a second striker or a playmaker or a runner, and is a quality finisher, capable of scoring and threading the final pass.”
Arsenal has already signed one central midfielder this summer with Granit Xhaka joining from German side Borussia Monchengladbach before the European Championships started.
Aouar is not expected to come straight into the first team setup at Arsenal, with the abundance of midfield talent at The Emirates currently, but Arsene Wenger must see potential for the future.
