Unai Emery has confirmed that Arsenal will try and sign a new centre-half in the January transfer window.
Emery has been getting to grips with life in charge of the north London side after having been appointed as Arsene Wenger’s successor at The Emirates back in May.
It has been a solid start to the season for the Gunners. After losing their first two Premier League games to Chelsea FC and Manchester City, the north London side have remained unbeaten in the top flight and are currently firmly in the race for a top-four finish.
As the January transfer window draws nearer, it is inevitable that the Gunners will be linked with a number of different players.
And now, the new Arsenal manager has indicated that he will try and bring in a new defender in the heart of his defence if possible.
Emery is quoted as saying by The Daily Mirror: “I don’t know if it’s possible, but I think if we can take one player to help us at centre-back it’s a good option.
“Laurent Koscielny coming back is very important for the team and we are going to see how Mavropanos is improving with his injuries.
“Nacho Monreal can play in this position. But I prefer to use, if we can, specific centre-backs in this position.”
Arsenal will now turn their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their trip to Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
The north London side have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign, and they finished sixth and without a trophy last term.
