Arsenal were heavily linked with Jamie Vardy, Aleksandre Lacazette and Gonzalo Higuain earlier this summer but failed to sign none of the aforementioned players.
Following his side’s goalless draw with Leicester City on Saturday, the Frenchman was asked whether Sanchez could feature regularly upfront this season, and he replied
“I think yes.
It is worth trying as he has the quality to go behind. Honestly he did not have a convincing game. I think he is one of those who is not completely ready physically.
“But on the flanks he uses a lot of energy by chasing back and I’d like to use his energy sometimes a bit more efficiently by going behind the defenders as he’s a good finisher.
“He has played centre-forward at Barcelona. He has similar qualities to [Luis] Suarez.”
“And he has good timing to run behind. It is interesting to see how well he copes with that. He is technically a top player.”
We saw Giroud thrive with Antoine Griezmann’s partnership at the European Championship. Wenger may just be up to something with Alexis upfront.
Sanchez has scored 42 goals in 93 games since joining Arsenal.
