In the wake of the Premier League defeat to Liverpool at the Emirates and a goal draw against Leicester City at the KingPower Stadium, you’d expect Wenger and Arsenal to be motivated to spend on the attacking and defensive areas of the squad.
Reports emanating from Spain via Mundo Deportivo is in the claim that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has sanctioned a big money move for out-of-favor Real Madrid attacker James Rodriguez. The agent of the player Jorge Mendes has revealed that the player is available for Arsenal move.
Since the appointment of Zinedine Zidane, James Rodriguez has fallen down the selection perking order of the French tactician – despite his experience, Isco gets more playing time and is favoured more.
James’ attitude is a concern. The report say that whilst the player has done nothing particulary wrong during pre-season, he’s not exactly busted a gut to make sure he has a Real Madrid career.
While signing a new centre-back is Wenger’s priority before the transfer window closes next Wednesday, he is also open to adding more attacking options to his squad.
Real are reported to want £51m for the Colombia international, who joined the club in 2014 for a fee that could reach £71m.
And the report claims Arsenal are leading the chase for Rodriguez’s signature as they are closest to Real’s asking price.
