Arsenal have entered the race for Sporting Lisbon’s Diego Capel. The winger has also been linked with Liverpool and Spurs as he seeks a move away from Portugal.
Capel has represented Spain twice and is known as a tricky winger. Liverpool had a £3 million offer rejected for the attacker earlier in the summer and are yet to come back with a second bid.
The Gunners are happy to meet the clubs £6 million valuation as they look to swoop in and steal him away from the Reds. Capel made his name at Sevilla before moving to Portugal where he has endured a difficult spell.
He only played 25 times for the Portuguese outfit last year and had to be content with a place on the bench in Lisbon’s opening game of the season so a move for the player should be met with caution.
Capel is only likely to be a squad player and will not be a big improvement on the current players in the squad. Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all better options than Capel but the transfer would give Wenger more options as he looks to strengthen the club’s squad depth.
