Wenger authorised the collective £100m striking additions of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the previous two transfer windows, but the Gunners boss failed to address the club’s defensive problems.
Arsenal have conceded 37 goals this season and have the worst defence from the Premier League’s top seven.
The club allowed both Francis Coquelin and Gabriel Paulista to depart last month and failed to sign an experienced defender.
Sead Kolasinac arrived on a free last summer. Meanwhile, new boy Konstantinos Mavropanos was signed on the cheap – although the Greek was one of the standout performers for PAS this term, he remains a far from a seasoned professional.
