Arsene Wenger is eager for an experienced goalkeeper to provide sufficient competition for Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski.
The deal will be completed after the Confederations Cup with Cesar starring for Brazil in tonight’s final. Talks between Arsenal and Cesar’s agents have already begun but the final stages will be completed when Cesar returns from international duty.
Arsenal face late interest from Serie A side Roma but are confident they can get their man. Cesar has insisted he is keen to stay in London giving the Gunners a huge advantage. QPR have allowed the goalkeeper to leave aslong as a bid of around £2 million is offered. The goalkeepers £70,000-a-week wages do not seem to be a problem as Arsenal are eager to complete the deal.
Following Cesar’s arrival, Arsenal expect to announce the signing of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain in what could be an important week for Arsenal’s summer. The player has agreed personal terms while a £22 million fee has been agreed.
The club are also watching Swansea’s Ashley Williams and Marouane Fellaini of Everton but are refusing to meet the £10 million asking price for Williams or the £100,000-a-week salary demands from Fellaini.
Arsenal’s hopes of waiting on the deal will make no difference with Fellaini prepared to stay at Everton until next summer where he feels he will get the salary he wishes.
Four deals for Arsenal to focus on next week. It looks to be a huge week for the Gunners.
