Alex Iwobi believes that Arsenal’s result against Manchester City on Sunday could have been different if David Silva had been spotted offside for Gabriel Jesus’ goal.

Silva was offside when he passed to Gabriel to net City’s third on Sunday but neither the linesman or referee Michael Oliver called it. Iwobi is convinced that if they had, the result could have been different.

“We were pushing to get the equaliser but unfortunately the referee wasn’t able to see that it was offside,” Iwobi said.

“There’s nothing that you can do, we just have to move on to the next game.

“Maybe we weren’t composing ourselves like we were in the first 10 or 15 minutes. Man City are a very good team and you have to give credit to them, but I believe the result doesn’t show how well we did.”

Arsenal were pushing for an equaliser. They were stronger in the second half, particularly after Alexander Lacazette came on and scored in the 65th minute. However, the third City goal once again took the wind out of their sails; there was no coming back from that.

Would the result have been different if City hadn’t been given their offside goal? Perhaps. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Pep Guardiola’s side were vastly superior just about everywhere on the pitch and thoroughly deserved the win.

If Arsenal had scored a second and City had won 3-2, meaning that Gabriel’s goal had genuinely cost us two points, then maybe I’d feel slightly more annoyed. However, as it stands, I can’t complain with the result. It’s our level now. City are simply too good for us to beat.
