Mesut Ozil has agreed to stay at the Emirates until 2021
Mohamed Elneny has revealed Mesut Ozil has signed his new Arsenal contract.
News that the German playmaker had agreed to extend his stay at the Emirates emerged in the early hours of Wednesday morning when it was reported by Bild and Goal.
The BBC later stated that the contract, which will run until 2021 had been signed, something Arsenal denied – although sources at the club did admit that it was ‘close’.
But Elneny now seems to have confirmed the news that every Arsenal fan wants to hear, that Ozil will be staying in north London for at least another three years.
“I spoke to Mesut and he told me that he signed the new contract. He is a world class player on & off the pitch,” the Egyptian midfielder told BeIN Sports.
“He is a vital player for us and there is always a positive aura surrounding him.”
Like Alexis Sanchez, Ozil’s current contract was due to expire in the summer and many expected the 29-year-old to follow Sanchez out of the Emirates exit doors.
The playmaker has always maintained he is happy in London but it was known that many of Europe’s top club were keeping tabs on his contract situation.
And reports in Germany suggest that Ozil rejected moves to three different European giants, as well as a money spinning offer from China before committing his future to Arsenal.
SportBild claim that the attacker turned down interest from Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain to stay at the Emirates.
