Julian Draxler has defended his decision not to make a big money move to Arsenal in the just concluded transfer window. Draxler was a subject of a 40 million euros bid from Arsenal 3 days to the end of the transfer window but the player refused to leave Schalke. Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Manchester City all reportedly made moves for the high rated youngster but he decided to stay at Schalke 04.
Defending his decision to say, he said :
“The World Cup is at the end of the season and you always need time to get used to a new team.
“On top of that, I’m convinced I’m at the right club with Schalke. We haven’t had a great start to the campaign and I was a bit disappointed after the first few games.
“But I think we took another important step forward after signing Kevin-Prince Boateng. We’ve got a strong team.
“I want to be in the first team with my club and take on more responsibility. That’s the only way I can play myself into contention for the national team.”
As an Arsenal fan, I think it will be difficult to blame the player for turning down Arsenal especially as him turning us down made us get Mesut Ozil who is equally young ( though 4 years older ) but far better player.
