PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG has admitted Arsenal were the only club to make a “real offer” for his services in the January transfer window.

The Gabon international was linked with a mega-money move to the Chinese Super League before joining Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund for a club-record fee worth around £56million.

The Gunners failed to qualify for this season’s Champions League and look set to miss out on a top-four finish again.

But Aubameyang insists they are different kettle of fish to Dortmund.

“It was the next step for me, it’s a big club,” he said.

“For me it’s a bit bigger than Dortmund, and this was a good step for me and my career.

“I didn’t want to go, for example, to China, because I want to do a lot of things here in Europe before I think about China or America.

 were the only club who made an offer, a real offer, and I’m really happy, because it’s a good club.”

Aubameyang made an instant impact on his debut, scoring in the 5-1 rout of , but his last two games ended in disappointing defeats.

The 1-0 loss to  put a severe dent in their top-four hopes while the Carabao Cup final defeat against  has raised questions about Arsene Wenger’s future once again.

Aubameyang insists there is no shame in losing to those side and offered his backing to Wenger.

He said: “I think it is a difficult moment, but I think we’ve played against great teams, and I think we just have to be united, keep going, working hard and that’s the way to follow.

“He is a great manager, everyone knows it. OK, it is not an easy moment, but we have to give our best to show him that we play for him and give everything for him.”

He told ESPN: “Aubameyang must be thinking, ‘What the hell have I done? Why the hell have I signed here?’.

“He was at Dortmund, right, okay, they’re not the biggest club in Germany but they’ve had some success.

“He was linked with Real Madrid, he was linked with this club, he was linked with that club, and he ends up at Arsenal.

“He’s worse off, did you see his face yesterday? As they were all scurrying around about 50 yards away from him.”
