Following his impressive form of late, Oliver Giroud is easy becoming the crowds favourite despite being classed as an average player.
The French striker scored a late winner against Preston over the weekend to see Arsenal through to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. It was just the latest vital goal from Giroud this season, despite his diminished role this term.
His importance is something of a turnaround for a player many Arsenal fans have voiced discontent with over the years.
‘Giroud came to the rescue once more for Arsenal, with his late winner at Preston and it seems the Frenchman is now a crowd favourite,’ Keown wrote for the Daily Mail.
‘After the scorpion-kick goal last week he now has a moment which will never be forgotten — he has become a very important player for Arsene Wenger.’
Arsenal return to action on Saturday when they play struggling Swansea in the Premier League.
