If recent reports are to be believed, Arsene Wenger is ready to loosen his financial constraints and splurge on three key signings in Bundesliga duo Ilkay Gundogan and Lars Bender, as well as the heavily touted Real Madrid front man Gonzalo Higuain.
These three big name players would tip the scales in Arsenal’s favour for the upcoming Premier League season and would be much welcomed by long suffering Gooners craving trophies.
Where exactly would these players fit in at The Emirates? Would Arsenal need to change formation in order to accomodate the £62 million trio?
Keeping the current formation of 4-2-3-1 is vital for the incoming trio as well as the team on a whole as keeping the 5 in midfield would continue to enhance our passing game especially with the sublime passing game of Gundogan. It would still allow Bender to sit in behind the midfielders and dictate play.
With Gundogan, Bender, Wilshere, Arteta, Ramsey, Rosicky and Cazorla (when not on the wing) fighting to start in the 3 central midfield positions, The Gunners will be spoilt for choice and will have the ability to select the best players for every match. Backed up with the added depth of Diaby and Coquelin (should they stay), the Arsenal midfield is surely one of the league’s best.
With Higuain coming in to start at centre forward, Giroud would drop back to the bench and would come on as an impact player as well as using his aerial ability to fight for high-balls and hold up play when Arsenal want to conserve the points. Podolski would slip back to left wing as most Gooners would agree he was more effective out on the left then as a centre forward.
This is the best opportunity Arsenal have had in recent years to win something. By strengthening the squad, there is only one way to go, and that’s up. Only time will tell if Arsenal are willing to break their usual financial rules and splash the cash on these three quality players. If this fantasy becomes a reality, then The Arsenal will be pushing for title glory will once again.
