Wenger’s Inactivity In The Transfer Window Set To Backfire As Arteta Is Ruled Out For One Month

If reports by Goal.com’s Wayne Veysey are anything to be taken seriously, Arteta vice captain Mikael Arteta is set to miss the first one month of the new season. Goal.com are claiming the midfielder broke down in training earlier this week and results of the scans carried out on him to ascertain the level of the injury show serious damage to his thigh muscle.

If true, the injury is likely to keep Arteta out of action for up to 4 weeks which means he is likely to miss the crucial two-legged champions league qualifiers against Turkish giants Fenerbache.

Wenger had earlier this morning revealed to the media that Arteta was struggling to be fit for the season opener against Aston Villa.

“He has a slight thigh problem” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website. We will have to check that. I don’t know if he will be out for the weekend. He has a scan today”.

Hours later, Goal.com are reporting that the injury is actually worst than the club initially expected.
