If daily express sources in Italy are to be believed, Arsenal fans are likely to see their team signing Schalke 04 and Greece National team defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos once the January transfer window opens. Kyriakos Papadopoulos was constantly been linked to Liverpool in the just concluded transfer window but nothing materialized as according to reports, Liverpool decided to wait till the player is fully healed from a serious knee injury.
Now, Arsenal are set to beat Liverpool to the signing of the high rated centre defender as they gunners try to brief up their fragile defence in the January transfer window. Daily express sources claim Wenger is encouraged by the fact that Schalke have resigned themselves to losing the player should an offer they consider good enough arrives for the defender.
Aside Arsenal, a host of other clubs are interested in the service of the defender. Chelsea, Manchester City, the 2 Milan teams, Russian side Zenith St Petersburg and Tottenham are also said to be closely watching the player’s situation with the intention of making their moves in January.
However, sources claim Arsenal are the frontrunners for the player’s signature as the gunners are said to be the only club prepared to meet Schalke’s £11m asking price and the only club comfortable to pay the player what he wants.
The worrisome thing is the fact that he was not signed by Liverpool in the transfer window that just closed due to his knee injuries. Considering her tricky knee injury and Arsenal’s luck with injuries, one can only hope Wenger knows what he is doing.
