Wenger Doubles Up Sociedad Attacker

Wenger seems to be keen on adding more width to Arsenal as he intensifies his pursuit of Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann. With the reality of having money to spend, it seems Le Prof would be loosening his purse strings in the winter window. what does Arsenal need? Certainly, a striker is very pertinent while a versatile defender won’t be a bad idea owing to the Sagna’s uncertain future. Bringing in a defender in, in January would present him ample time to adapt to the Premier League ahead of the summer.

But besides those 2 positions, it seems Wenger is also keen to add another winger who can add competition to the squad. Sociedad’s ace Griezmann is a long-term target and Arsenal are now stepping up their scouting of the player ahead of a possible bid in January.

The La Liga club are keen to hang onto their man, but they admitted this week that he could leave if a suitable offer arrived.

‘We want to keep him for as long as possible,’ a club source told Marca.

‘But we have a battle to convince him to stay – we know clubs are interested in him.’

It’s thought that any deal for Griezmann could be worth as much as £20 million.

Interesting news there if you ask me. If Wenger is planning to bring in a new winger and is willing to spend as much as 20 million pounds, it could mean that he has shelved his plans of signing a striker and wants to switch his pseudo strikers Walcott and Podoldski who have been playing on the wings to the central striking position to complement Giroud’s efforts but before that is done, he wants to bring in a winger to replace them there.

While I am in no doubt of Griezmann’s potentials, I would rather have Wenger pursue a more experienced target like Di Maria. If he is willing to spend 20 million pounds on the Sociedad winger, he could as well add 10 million more to it and land the Argentine from real Madrid. Recent reports have it that the former Benfica winger is at loggerheads with Ancelotti over reduced playing time and could be offloaded in the winter window. anyday anytime, I will take Di Maria over Griezmann because he is more at home with playing football at the top level unlike the Sociedad winger who is still new to top level football.
