The obvious need for Arsenal’s team before the summer was a top-notch striker. This saw the club linked to arrays of strikers in Europe, including Africa’s footballer of the year Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
Spanish paper El Confidencial have made an interested revelation of what transpired between Arsenal and Borrussia Dortmund as the Gunners tried to sign the Aubameyang in the summer.
According to the report, Arsene Wenger had made an official attempt to lure to free-scoring striker in the window.
The Gunners offered Dortmund 60 million euros for the striker, while the Germans demanded 100 million euros. That’s where negotiations broke down.
We all know Wenger to be a prudent coach who hardly doles out money for the sake of it. However, the quality of Aubameyang is not in doubt and he would have added more bite to the in-form attack of ARSENAL.
You’d imagine many Gooners will be scratching their heads as to why Arsenal didn’t complete the deal for Aubameyang when they had the chance.
