Diego Simeone has reopened speculation linking Santi Cazorla to Spain. The Atletico Madrid manager stated ‘anything could happen’ in the transfer window.
“It’s not good to talk about individual players, but until the club closes the comings and goings, anything is possible. We’ll see what happens from the sporting directors. Until the window is closed, anything is possible.”
His comments seem to suggest the club are pursuing the former Malaga star, despite Arsenal’s warning that he is not for sale.
Reports emerged a few days ago suggesting the midfield ace had agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid while a representative was in London to finalise the move.
Atletico president, Enrique Cerezo, was quick to deny the allegations.
“We have no news of Cazorla. These are invented stories that are made up every day.”
Arsenal were also quick to state the player would not be leaving but Simeone, has hinted the story may not be completely dead just yet. The Argentine could be commenting on the transfer market in general with the huge sums spent on individual players such as Neymar, Edinson Cavani, Marquinhos and Asier Illarramendi.
The transfer market is an unpredictable place and that may have been to message in Simeone’s words but there is likely to be more to it that that with Atletico Madrid wanting to improve their midfield.
Cazorla was a target for the Spanish club last summer but Arsenal beat them to his signature and they are out to get their man this year. However, Arsenal are determined he won’t be leaving.
