Wayne Rooney is set to snub Arsenal in favour of a move to Chelsea. The striker had previously given suggestions that a move to Arsenal would interest him but is now looking for a move to Stamford Bridge according to Daily Mail.
Rooney is set to hold talks with David Moyes over his future and despite what reports are saying, he is open to staying at Manchester United however should he leave the Premier League champions then Chelsea would be his desired destination.
Jose Mourinho is believed to be a big factor with the England forward wanting to work under the Portuguese while Chelsea offer a more realistic chance of silverware having won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup over the past two seasons while Arsenal are still trophyless for the past eight seasons.
Chelsea’s finances can easily stretch to afford both a transfer fee and wages and while so can Arsenal with their new found wealth, splashing out so much on one player still isn’t how they operate. Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov recently spoke out about his thoughts on Rooney, saying he feels Wenger should do all he can to sign Rooney but with Higuain on the way added with the goal scoring ability of Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, I don’t think Rooney is a necessity.
If Rooney were to join then I would welcome his arrival with open arms. He is an incredibly talented footballer and he would only increase our chances for next season but I feel we only need another natural goal scorer and Higuain’s signing would seal that spot. He is a cheaper option than Rooney and will do the job we need him to do. Rooney would cost the club a lot of money and although we have the finances, I don’t think we should waste them just because we can.
Higuain and Marouane Fellaini would show a good bit of transfer business from Arsenal and if we decided to get Rooney then that would be great. However if he decides to join Chelsea or indeed stay at Old Trafford then there’s no need to fret. The club would be saving an enormous amount of money while still possessing the talent to really challenge for the Premier League title.
