Arsenal are keen on signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar and manager Unai Emery sees the young Frenchman as an ideal replacement for Aaron Ramsey. The 20-year-old has already scored five goals in Ligue 1 and laid on three assists in the Champions League this season, emerging as one of the most promising you talents in European football. Chelsea and Manchester City managers Maurizio Sarri and Pep Guardiola are both said to be fans, but France Football report that it is Arsenal who are particularly keen.
Emery knows all about Aouar from his time in France in charge of PSG and loves how versatile the youngster is, while he is likely to command a transfer fee in excess of £36million. He is seen as the ideal replacement for Ramsey, who is almost certain to leave the Emirates when his contract expires in the summer – and he is free to begin negotiating a pre-contract agreement from January onwards.
Any move for Aouar is said to be dependent on Arsenal qualifying for the Champions League, with the Gunners facing a difficult task in convincing him to move to the Emirates ahead of the many European giants currently scouting him. Guardiola was full of praise for Aouar after facing Lyon earlier this season, while the Frenchman told RMC he would love to play under the Manchester City manager.
