Unai Emery has refused to give assurances over Mesut Ozil’s future at Arsenal after dropping the midfielder for the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday evening. Arsenal were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by their north London rivals, while Ozil failed to make the matchday squad for the 10th time this season. Emery claims Ozil was left out of the team due to ‘tactical reasons’. But when asked about the 30-year-old’s long-term future at the club and how he reacted to being dropped, Emery was evasive. ‘It’s a tactical decision, I thought the players with us were the best for this match,’ Emery said when asked to explain his decision after the loss to Spurs.
Asked how Ozil reacted to the decision, Emery replied: ‘I’m thinking every player we have 24, 25 players, when they are playing in one [game], or they are not playing in another, for me the decision is tactical. Asked if he will let Ozil leave in January, Emery said: ‘My focus now is analysing this match and also Saturday against Burnley, which is very important.
‘Also tomorrow we are training with every player, hopefully they can all train for a difficult game against Burnley.’ Asked Ozil features in his future plans, Emery replied: ‘I’m thinking about the match Saturday and not about another situation. ‘Every player, they are important. One I decided didn’t play, only a tactical decision.’
