Unai Emery has revealed he took Lucas Torreira off in Arsenal’s win against Bournemouth because the midfielder was tiring. The Uruguayan was awarded the man of the match award after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck in the second half to give Arsenal all three points. Torreira has been an instant hit with supporters since arriving from Sampdoria and they were angered that he was taken off with ten minutes to go at the Vitality Stadium. Emery acknowledged that Torreira had played well but said the midfielder was feeling the effects of the two matches he played over the international break.

‘He was giving us good balance, but also we need to be clever with the player because he playing with his national team two matches,’ revealed Emery.

Emery’s side moved to within a point of the top four with their win on the south coast. The Gunners now face Tottenham at home next weekend before a trip to Old Trafford to play top four rivals Manchester United.
