Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is back to full training and may even make the trip this weekend to Sunderland according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
‘Vermaelen is back in full training. He is very close to being available and he could be in the squad on Saturday. It is more likely to be Wednesday, but there is a possibility he might still travel on Friday to Sunderland.’
The big Beglian defender is yet to play a single game for Arsenal this season after suffering a stress fracture during pre-season training. Vermaelen has been having one injury to the other ever since he joined the gunners from Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam in 2010. He was as a result of injuries and poor form used sparingly towards last season and has only played a handful of games for Arsenal so far this season.
Injuries and poor form has seen his place in the team taken by Koscielny and Per Mertesacker who have seen developed a water tight partnership in the centre of Arsenal’s defense which will make it even more difficult for Vermaelen to break into the team.
With the Brazil 2014 FIFA world cup getting closer every day, the big Belgian defender is keen to take back his place in the Arsenal side as he tries to maintain his first team shirt at the national team leave.
