With reports claiming Kieran Gibbs will leave Arsenal this summer, Arsenal could do with the signing of another left back and it appears Wenger is working on that. According to reports, North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with left-back Jonas Hector from FC Koln.
The 26-year-old, who according to report is worth £17m, appeared 32 times in the German Bundesliga last season. He featured in every single match in its entirety and scored the winning penalty against Italy to get his country through to the semi-finals and I’m sure this amount if negotiable, he’s been key for the German national team during the Euros. Unfortunately, Germany lost by two unreplied goals to host France in said semi-final and failed to make the final but that’by the way.
All indictions show that is it very much possible the Gunners are interested in the German. It looks like Arsenal are in the hunt for another left-back during this summer’s transfer window, with Wolfsburg’s and Swiss international full back Ricardo Rodriguez originally being strongly linked and Wenger reportedly trying to intercept Monaco’s signing of Djibril Sidibé.
The question is can Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger actually pay as much as £17m for a defender? I think he can, if he’s the right peg in the right hole. It’s unclear right now, the situation of things with talks with Rodriguez, which seemed to have stalled at the moment.
