It’s looking increasingly likely that Alexis Sanchez is set to stay at Arsenal next season…

Despite strong interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City, Alexis has reportedly agreed to stay at Arsenal and honour the last year of his contract, claims respected Chilean outlet, La Tercera.

While the 28-year-old has been away at the Confederations Cup with his national team, rumours have been swirling that the Chilean is set to move to either Bayern or City this summer.

However, recently the reports appeared to have dried up.

Some claimed that Bayern had been priced out of the running while others were convinced that the forward was moving to Manchester to play under his former Barcelona manager, Pep Guardiola.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger always maintained that Alexis would honour the final year of his contract, whether he signed an extension or not, and Arsenal would risk him leaving for free next year.

“This summer, first of all, they will stay at the club and hopefully we can extend their contracts,” Wenger said in June.

“You cannot weaken the club and weaken the team. You want to strengthen the team. Unless you find a player of the same calibre. If they want absolutely to leave.

“I believe at the moment we are not on that front. We are just focused on keeping the team together and see how to strengthen the team.

“When you sign a contract somewhere, you commit to give your best until the end of the last day of your contract. I would say why should they not give their best?”

The player himself even said during Huawei press conference back in March, “I’m happy in London, I hope I can finish my contract at Arsenal.

“I want to keep myself in a winning team and stay in the same city.”

However, players and managers say these kind of things all the time.

We won’t really know until Alexis breaks his silence on the matter, or the transfer window closes. Whichever comes first.

  1. sanchez’s staying is something we all Gunners fans want to see, and for us to win the league next season means we have to at all cost keep our stars. letting sanchez leave is giving away silverware. with allexander in the team now, next is a perfect number eight. and see why i love arsenal next season. if they are players to be sold at least not our regular starters.
