Steven Gerrard has admitted that he was very impressed by what he saw from Alexandre Lacazette in Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.
The 26-year-old made his first competitive start for the north London side as the Gunners clinched victory over the Blues at Wembley for the second time in a row.
Sead Kolasinac cancelled out Victor Moses’ opener at Wembley before Arsenal won the game on penalties to lift the first piece of silverware on offer this season.
Lacazette looked bright on his first appearance at Wembley and curled a fine shot against the post in the first half.
And former Liverpool captain Gerrard was extremely impressed by what he saw from the France international, who signed for Arsenal in a club-record deal back in July.
Speaking on BT Sport after the Community Shield clash, Gerrard said: “He looked class. His first touch, he certainly looks like an Arsenal player – he oozes class.
“It’s important he gets off to a good start. From an Arsenal point of view, they need him to get off the ground really quickly.”
Arsenal now turn their attentions towards their Premier League opener against Leicester City on Friday night as they look to get off to winning ways in the top flight.
The Gunners will be hoping to improve their Premier League form this season after they ended up fifth in the table last term.
