Steve McManaman has praised the impact of Lucas Torreira at Arsenal following his impressive performance against Liverpool at the Emirates.
A summer signing from Sampdoria, the Uruguayan has wasted no time in becoming a fan favourite and has even been compared to Patrick Vieira.
He already has his own chant that takes inspiration from a song that was originally sung for the former captain and France international.
Liverpool struggled to cope with him through the middle and while his qualities as a ball winner and enforcer are known he showed his ability to get forward and use the ball to attack as the pitch opened up for him.
McManaman appeared on BT Sport during the game as a commentator and he picked out Torreira for special praise, naming him as his man of the match.
“He’s been excellent,” said the former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City midfielder. “He’s that sitting midfielder that Arsenal have been missing for years.
“His first thought is to get forward and I love that.”
