Simon Mignolet’s move to Liverpool ended interest in the Belgian while talks have cooled on Stoke’s Asmir Begovic. Julio Cesar was rumoured to be close to a move but the deal has stalled while the Brazilian is on holiday.
Wenger is not interested in waiting and has moved on to Tim Krul of Newcastle and St. Etienne’s Ruffier.
Chief scout Giles Grimandi watched the France ‘keeper towards the end of last season and has encouraged Le Prof to make a bid after some impressive displays. St. Etienne recorded the second best defensive record in Ligue 1 last season, bettered only by champions PSG and Ruffier had a big part of that.

Wenger is eager for the Pole to focus more and believes competition for the number one shirt at the club may help him. Vito Mannone’s move to Sunderland has opened up the space for another goalkeeper to join the squad.
Patrick Glanz, Ruffier’s agent, has admitted there is interest in England, but stopped short of naming certain clubs.
“Currently there has been contact with an English club. Therefore, a future in the Premier League is a possibility.”
The comments made by Glanz have increased speculation that Arsenal are after the goalkeeper but they need to act quick if they are too get their man with interest growing for Ruffier.
“The interest of Roma? I don’t rule out that the Giallorossi like him. Rudi Garcia likes him but there has been no direct contact.”
“St. Etienne would like to keep him but if they get a good offer they would let him go.”
