Reports have emerged that Arsenal are on the brink of a shock swoop for AC Milan’s Stephan El Shaarawy. The two clubs have been in ‘secret negotiations’ over the 20-year old who has seen game time hard to come by since Mario Balotelli’s January move. Yesterday, we broke the news of the deal but it seems other news outlets have also found out about the pre-agreement between Milan and Arsenal.
The Egyptian born striker has started just once in Serie A this season with Balotelli, Robinho and Alessandro Matri all above him in the pecking order. The 20 year old finished as Milan’s top scorer in all competitions last year with a tally of 19 but has fallen out of favour, especially since Balotelli’s arrival from Manchester City.
The Gunners have made a new striker their priority this summer and have been linked with several forwards, with El Shaarawy the latest name but reports suggest a deal is almost complete. Arsene Wenger will once again be handed sufficient funds to carry out his business and is close to agreeing a £25 million move for the Italian international.
The striker is desperate for more first team football to give him a stronger chance of making it to the summer’s World Cup and his strike rate suggests Arsenal will gain a goal getter with room for more development. The striker would be open to a move to the Emirates with the Gunners currently top of the Premier League and boasting top talent such as Santi Cazorla & Mesut Özil.
The lure of first team football will be the biggest factor and with Arsenal heavily-reliant on Olivier Giroud, El Shaarawy’s move would relieve the burden on the French striker’s shoulders and give the squad much more depth in that area.
