Stats – Oliver Giroud Better Than Drogba In Champions League

According to reports,

“Following Olivier Giroud’s Premier League brace against Sunderland on Saturday, an outstanding stat emerged.

The striker now has the 15th best goal-per-minute ratio in Premier League history (165.5 minutes/goal). That’s ahead of Chelsea hero, Didier Drogba (168.8).

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero tops the list with a goal every 106.9 minutes and Thierry Henry comes in second with a goal every 121.8 minutes.

This is outstanding for Oli.

However, since it looks like he’s going to get a start during Arsenal’s Champions League clash away to Ludogorets on Tuesday night, it’s worth asking whether he can replicate this in Europe.

The short answer is: yes. Yes he can.

The big guy’s goal-per-minute ratio for Arsenal in the Champions League is actually even better than in the Premiership.

In Europe, since joining the Gunners, the 30-year-old scores a goal every 164.2 minutes (including qualifiers). This is actually pretty close to his score for the league, which proves how consistent he’s been for us.

Want to know something even cooler? Excluding Champions League qualifiers, he scores a goal every 157.4 minutes.

Alexis scores a Champions League goal for Arsenal every 185.6 minutes.

Not to say that Giroud is ‘better’ than Alexis as the Chilean lifts the team in a different way while the Frenchman offers a plan B. However, it’s an interesting stat nonetheless.”
