ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE is closing in on a move to Arsenal – but what squad number will he wear?

Lacazette will become Arsenal’s record signing in a deal that could rise over £50million.

The 26-year-old will become the club’s second summer signing after left-back Sead Kolasinac.

And the striker will be the marquee arrival for the summer as Arsene Wenger plots an overhaul after signing a two-year extension.

Lacazette had claimed he would only join a club in the Champions League but after Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban fell through he is set to Arsenal.

But what squad number will Lacazette wear at Arsenal?

Lacazette has worn the number 10 at Lyon since the 2013/14 season. Prior to that he wore the number 17 and before that the number 38.

The number 10 at Arsenal was spare last year but Jack Wilshere is back and is listed next to it on the club website.

With Lucas Perez looking likely to leave the number nine will be available, but other than that he could take seven if Alexis Sanchez leaves, 10 if Wilshere is not given it back, 22, 27 or 30.

However with a number of other players potentially leaving other numbers could become available.

Lacazette’s move to Arsenal may pave the way for Olivier Giroud to leave the club.

The France striker has been linked with West Ham and Everton while Marseille and Lyon are keeping tabs.

However Giroud has come out fighting and suggested he will hang around despite the imminent arrival of Lacazette.

“I won a few titles in my career, that is an important thing, but there is another thing which is important for me,” Giroud told Arsenal’s official website.

“And that’s the people [see you as a] loyal warrior on the pitch – that you always give your best for the team.

“And that’s why I want to carry on my good journey at Arsenal and I always want to give my best.

“I would love to win another title, or maybe more until the end of my contract.

“The motivation is here, always doing your best to make your family proud.”
