ARSENAL are having to wait until July to announce the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos because of Borussia Dortmund.
The Gunners are poised to sign the Greece international after a £16m agreement was reached between the two clubs.
Sokratis is set to become Arsenal’s second summer acquisition following the capture of Stephan Lichsteiner on a free from Serie A champions Juventus.
However, while the move is in place, fans have been made to wait on any confirmation.
The 30-year-old, who is supposedly joining on a three-year contract, has already travelled to England and undergone a medical, according to Football London.
But according to today’s print edition of German newspaper Kicker, Dortmund do not want the transfer to go through until the next financial year.
That means nothing will be announced until July 1 at the earliest.
Arsenal players not at the World Cup will return for pre-season training in the week commencing Monday July 2.
And Sokratis should be part of that group, given Greece failed to qualify for the tournament in Russia.
