Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder cum defender Emmanuel Petit has described the signing of Mathieu Flamini more important than the signing of Mesut Ozil. Petit feels signing Flamini has helped ensure stability in Arsenal’s defence.
Talking to talksport Emmanuel Petit said :
“Everyone is talking about Mesut Ozil’s impact on the squad, but I was particularly happy to see Mathieu Flamini’s comeback. They surely needed someone like Ozil, but Mathieu having joined back is even more important, since a man capable of protect the 4 men back-line, a real defensive midfielder, was necessary”.
I absolutely agree with Petit. The Signing of Flamini is by far more important to Arsenal than that of the signing of Mesut ozil. No disrespect to the quality of Ozil but we already have very creative players in the team. The likes of Cazorla, Wilshere, Ramsey and Arteta are creative enough but signing Flamini has ensure that we don’t leak silly goals.
Ever since Flamini left ( isn’t it ironic? ) in 2008, Arsenal have always lacked that “monster figure” in the defensive midfield department which has ensure the team conceded silly goals season in season out.
