Given the recent success they have enjoyed, Arsenal and Chelsea are the most successful London clubs in the Premier League but their rivalry will last forever.
According to Arsenal legend Ian Wright, he was close to joining Chelsea after a difficult time under manager Bruce Rioch at Highbury.
The much-loved former Gunners striker enjoyed a glittering career in north London, and ended up staying and continuing to shine under Rioch’s successor Arsene Wenger.
However, Rioch nearly lost Wright to Chelsea as his situation attracted interest from across London, where Glenn Hoddle was in charge at the time.
‘Glenn Hoddle wanted me to go to Chelsea,’ Wright told Sky Sports.
‘I would have gone reluctantly because I felt I was being pushed out the club.
‘I didn’t get on with Bruce Rioch at all. I felt like he had to make a point to try and show he was the boss – he didn’t have to do that.
‘We always argued. In the end, I put in a transfer request.’
