Arsenal’s celebrity fan Pier Morgan was vexed with Arsene Wenger’s decision to sell Van Persie to United in the summer of 2012.
The sale of the Dutch player dazed a lot of Arsenal fans and Wenger stirred so much criticism for that action. Pier Morgan says Wenger should have been sacked for allowing the player leave.
The Netherlands international scored 30 times in 38 Premier League games for the Gunners in the 2011-12 season to finish as the division’s top goal-scorer.
Nonetheless, Sir Alex Ferguson persuaded Wenger to sell the his Captain in the final year of his contract. Van Persie went on to score 26 goals in 38 Premier League games and he fired United to another League title.
“He should have been sacked for that alone [selling Van Persie],” Morgan told BBC Sport.
“Seriously, you sell your captain and your best player to your number one rivals and they win the league and he wins the golden boot.
“You think he’s still the same ruthless winner he was before?”
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2004 when Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira inspired Arsenal to top-flight glory.
