Thomas Lemar is holding off talks over a new contract with Monaco as he is waiting to see if Arsenal will follow up their interest, according to reports in France.
The 21-year-old still has three years remaining on his deal with the Ligue 1 champions but L’Equipe claim that the midfielder is holding out for Arsene Wenger to make a move.
Two weeks ago, L’Equipe reported that Lemar was open to joining Arsenal this summer, even though the club will not be playing in the Champions League next season.
Monaco are also reportedly open to selling the France international but only if an offer of €30 million (£26m) is received.
Lemar is one of many Monaco players who have attracted widespread interest after an impressive season in which the club won the Ligue 1 title and reached the Champions League semi-final.
Tottenham are also in the running to sign Lemar and Hugo Lloris has hinted that he’s tried persuading his France team-mate to join Spurs ahead of Arsenal.
‘You are right to ask the question, but I cannot reply,’ the goalkeeper told reporters with a smile on his face after France’s 3-2 win over England.
