Liverpool steered clear of making a move for Arsenal new boy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, because Jurgen Klopp was concerned over the player’s disciplinary issues, according to former Anfield star Mark Lawrenson.
Arsenal sealed a club-record £55million deal when they brought in Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day.
His move triggered Olivier Giroud’s switch to Chelsea, while Michy Batshuayi joined Dortmund on loan.
As far as Liverpool were concerned, while money wouldn’t have prevented a deal from taking place, Lawrenson felt Klopp didn’t want to take a risk due to his antics off the pitch.
“I am a big fan of his, but it’s never been suggested that Klopp was interested in him,” Lawrenson told the Daily Star.
“So that to me suggests that Klopp thinks he’s a really good player but off the pitch he’s hard work and Klopp doesn’t like that.”
