Arsene Wenger has started preparing for the demands of the winter fixtures with reports claiming that Alexis Sanchez will be handed a break.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the Gunners’ quest to end a 12-year wait for Premier League glory.
However, his fitness has been in doubt since the international break in which he picked up a hamstring injury.
The issue forced Sanchez to miss his country’s World Cup qualifying draw with Colombia.
Nonetheless, he returned to action against Uruguay and was thrown into action by Arsene Wenger last Saturday in the Premier League against Manchester United.
However, the Arsenal boss is keen to ensure Sanchez is fully fit for a potential title run-in.
The former Barcelona winger has not had a full summer off duty since 2013 and the Daily Mail say his manager is poised to take the unexpected step of resting him in a number of upcoming fixtures.
Should Arsenal beat Paris St-Germain on Wednesday they will seal top spot in their Champions League group a game early – handing Wenger the chance to leave Sanchez out in their final pool game against Basel.
The hitman will likely be allowed to watch his team’s FA Cup third-round fixture from the sidelines too, as long as they are drawn against sufficiently weaker opposition.
Sanchez has made 16 Arsenal appearances so far this term, bagging eight goals and racking up five assists.
