David Ospina could make a return to Atletico Nacional on loan in January, in order to cement his place in Colombia’s World Cup squad.

According to Colombian outlet Antena 2, former side Atletico Nacional are interested in the goalkeeper, and could offer him consistent game time, which is something the Gunners aren’t able to do at the moment.

This news comes a day after reports claimed that Arsenal would be willing to let Ospina go in January. As I pointed out at the time, the Colombian’s injuries have had a much greater effect on his playing time than if he was the first-choice goalkeeper playing regularly in the Premier League.

His matches are often infrequent anyway, so missing just one or two games can suddenly leave him without any playing time for a month, as is the case currently. As for the latest rumours, the only thing I’m struggling to see the logic behind is that they’re being presented as a loan deal.

Arsène Wenger has freely admitted that Arsenal’s squad is too large, meaning the Gunners need to try and offload some players. Loaning them out and then having to deal with them again in the summer doesn’t sound like good forward planning to me.

If Atletico Nacional came in with a permanent offer, I’m sure it would be more likely to be successful.
