The Daily Mail is reporting that Manchester City are offering Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna a 3 year contract to tempt him to make the move to the Eastland. Sagna and the club have had series of contract talks, but are yet to agree on a new deal that will see the defender extend his stay.
Sagna whose contract runs out at the end of the season is free to sign for another club once his contract expires. Though, the club is keen to keep him for another 2 years, reports claim that the French international wants a 3 year extension to his current contract.
Various media sources including the Daily Mail have claimed that the player who is currently on £60,000 a week wages wants not just a 3 year extension of his current contract, but also wants an increment on what he earns from the club at the moment. Sagna according to reports has already turned down 2 contract offers from the club; and there are claims that he might leave at the end of the season.
At 31, the French international is one of Arsenal’s most dependable defender that is able to play anywhere in the defence. On a number of occasions, the former AJ Auxerre has been able to cover up for his team mate especially during injury situations.
I am not sure the latest news, if true will go down well with all Arsenal supporters due to the fact that players like Nasri and Gael Clichy have gone to join the same club in the past. Though, the club doesn’t have much say in where Sagna ends up at the end of the season, one thing that can be done is to offer him what he wants.
Bar any long-term injury, the defender still has a couple of more years to offer the club; and that is why it won’t be a big ask to give him what he wants. As much as most Arsenal fans love Sagna, not one of them would to see him wear a Man City jersey come the end of the season.
