Mesut Özil’s departure is still being discussed around the world and Real Madrid assistant Zinedine Zidane has lifted the lid on his verdict.
The French legend claimed Özil didn’t have the strength to battle for a place at Madrid and took the easy way out by joining Arsenal.
Many players have arrived at the Bernabeu, which left the attack rather congested, especially in midfield. Former Malaga star Isco has so far been the stand out performer in the midfield and overtook Özil in the CAM position. Madrid then announced the world record signing of Gareth Bale, which seemingly put more pressure on the German who eventually completed a move to Arsenal.
With the World Cup coming up in the summer, Özil wanted to make sure he would have a full year of first team football and there is no doubt he will get that at Arsenal.
There have been many reasons for Özil’s departure. They player insisted he felt the loss of faith from Ancelotti, Florentino Perez stated the German had become unprofessional with an addiction to girls and nightlife with Zidane now adding Özil felt worried for his position in the team. The truth is the real reason will probably never be revealed but it’s unlikely that he was scared of Isco.
The Spaniard has started is career at Madrid well and deservedly started over the German however Özil was arguably the second best player at Madrid and he could have been played on the wing. Over the course of the season, it’s inevitable that he would have pushed out Isco, especially with Kaka leaving for AC Milan.
Joining Arsenal may have been easy in terms of playing time but was certainly not easier than joining other teams. He will be the catalyst at Arsenal now and most of the play will flow through him. He will be relied upon much more than he was at Madrid and has higher expectations as all those emotions are thrown at Cristiano Ronaldo at Madrid.
