Arsenal’s pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain has been stuttering lately with Madrid keen on persuading the striker to stay. However, Spanish newspaper Marca, claims the Argentine still wants a move to the Gunners.
A £22 million deal was believed to have been agreed weeks ago along with personal terms but no transfer was confirmed. A new £23 million move was close but Madrid are now demanding £27 million, a move that has angered Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman has grown frustrated at Madrid’s negotiations and has switched his focus on to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
The club had a £30 million bid rejected for the Uruguayan and are considering a second bid of £35 million however Higuain has not given up of a move away. Madrid president Florentino Perez and new club manager Carlo Ancelotti are setting up talks with the striker to try and keep him at the club but the South American has grown tired of his treatment at the Bernabeu and is insistent on a move away, with Arsenal the preferred destination.
Madrid has so far spent a total of £71 million so far this summer, completing Asier Illarramendi’s £32 million move from Real Sociedad today and so could be willing to accept a lower bid for Higuain to balance the books, should the striker keep to his wish of a move away.
Los Blancos are also interested in Suarez and are preparing a £40 million move to sign up the striker, should that deal be completed, then Higuain’s future would be all but confirmed paving the way for a move to Arsenal. If they do persuade Higuain to stay then Arsenal have no direct competition for Suarez’s signature and have been encouraged by Suarez’s comments on the Gunners interest.
Despite the pro-longed transfer of Higuain, it seems Arsenal will end up with a world class striker. Gonzalo Higuain or Luis Suarez.
